Living at 12XX North Kings Road in West Hollywood
Living at 12XX North Kings Road in West Hollywood is nothing but a dream. (I use the XX's in the address to keep a little discreet) After looking at more than a dozen apartments in the greater Los Angeles area, Dave and I finally came upon this place. After looking at so many let-downs, I went to look at 12XX not expecting much. But when the building manager let me in to see the available unit, I was in love. (with the apartment, not Steve. Although he is a FANTASTIC man and I can't speak highly enough about him.) The unit was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. The ad said it was 1400 square feet. I didn't beleive that that could be true; then I opened the door. It's huge! It really is 1400 square feet. It comes with a wet bar, (where can you find an original built in wet bar anymore?) a huge kitchen complete with a wall full of cabinet space and a seperate breakfast nook that is seperate from the dining area. You could do gymnastics in our living room! The second bedroom is about average size, but it fits the office perfectly. The master bedroom is like a whole seperate apartment. It has a seperate dressing area, that sort of feels like a walk-in closet, but isn't, and that leads to the master bath. I should also mention the cute balcony with the view of Century City to the left and the Hollywood Hills to the right. Moving in was a breeze. (see my intel on the moving company we used) Steve was like Julie on the Love Boat. He made sure he showed Dave and I around and pointed out every little detail, good and bad, about the unit. We signed a lease that was so simple it was one page. Then he handed us the keys and welcomed us. The tenants are really nice too. I expected more 20 somethings, what with West Hollywood being so hip and trendy. Instead, I found that a good part of the community here has been living in his or her same units for 10, 15, even 20 years. They may be older than 20 something, but these folks have character. But it's not an old folks home either. I have come across some fresh faced cool cats too. The building is very well maintained. It has a hot tub in the basement that is always kept clean. It's not very inviting and it seems no one ever goes in it, but at least it's there. The laundry room is pretty basic. The machines need to be updated because the dryers don't dry worth a darn. But the parking facility is huge. Side-by-side parking! That's a hard luxury to come by in these here parts. Steve, the manager take good care of the place. He just had the hallways painted in October 2008 and earth-friendly "green" carpet put in throughout the building. He takes pride in this place as do all the residents. Here's to living here for many years to come. |
